In the heapleaching method, crushed or uncrushed oxidized copper ore is placed on a prepared drainage pad. Acid leach solutions are distributed over the top of the heap, caused to percolate downward through the ore bed by gravity, and are drained from its base. The leach duration is generally a matter of a few months.
This paper summarizes the results of an experimental and economic study undertaken to evaluate the feasibility of treating an oxidized orebody of about 10 million tons, grading about per cent copper, by agitation leaching and by percolation leaching.
Percolation leaching is conducted in a series of vats containing the crushed ore through which leaching solution is pumped to gradually put the metal into solution. Agitation leaching is used with very finely divided ores which may have already been partially processed and would pack too tightly for percolation methods.
Heap leaching is an industrial mining process used to extract precious metals, copper, uranium, and other compounds from ore using a series of chemical reactions that absorb specific minerals and reseparate them after their division from other earth materials. Similar to in situ mining, heap leach mining differs in that it places ore on a liner, then adds the chemicals via drip systems to the ...
Agitation leaching is suitable for high grade ores (4070 % solids) and increases percolation of acid into solids at different agitation speeds [1, 5]. Buffle plates, in addition to agitators, may be used to maximize slurry mixing [6]. Compressed air leaching in pachuca tanks is the most common method for leaching copper ore [79].
The use of continuous vat leaching is a preferred method of leaching copper ore over . resulting in poor percolation Copper . »More detailed. Hydrometallurgical copper extraction process – Cominco . May 31, 1994 · reducing the acidity of said leach liquor by effecting percolation leaching of a bed of copper ore with said leach liquor, .
It is''generally known inmetallurgical leaching practice that there is a minimumwdegree of fineness to which ore particles may be crushed for subsequent percolation leaching. The reason for this is...
a method used to leach ores in a fixed bed, mainly, copper oxides and gold ores; leaching by this method is called percolation leaching. The process is carried out in a percolator tank. The pulverized ore is uniformly loaded onto the tank''s false bottom, which is a filtering device.

PREPARATION OF THE COPPER ORE This study is limited in general to percolation leaching as it is the most widely used method to give proper contact of solvent with the ore to effect extraction of the copper. One of the important factors in percolation leaching is the size reduction necessary for copper recovery within reasonable time limits.
tions through large heaps of oxide copper ore on the banks of the Rio Tinto River. Since then, this process has been used extensively throughout the world to leach oxide copper values from mine strip material from open pit min ing of porphyry copper deposits. Uranium producers have also used heap leach ing since the late 1950''s for extracting ...
This wellresearched process recovers copper cyanide as a precipitate after cyanide leaching. This can be of benefit in those gold and copperbearing ores where the copper can interfere in the carboninpulp recovery of the gold. There are many microorganisms and other reagents that can be used in a percolation heap mode.
IN SITU RECOVERY OF COPPER FROM SULFIDE ORE BODIES FOLLOWING NUCLEAR FRACTURING Joe B. Rosenbaumi/ and W. A. McKinneyf/ ABSTRACT Leaching now yields about 12 percent of the Nation''s annual new copper production. About 200,000 tons of copper a year is being won by heap and vat leaching of ore, dump leaching of waste, and inplace leaching of caved

Up to 80 per cent of the copper in a bornite ore can be quickly leached with percolating acidified ferric sulphate solutions. The upper limit for rapid copper extraction is set by the conversion of bornite to slowly dissolving chalcopyrite. The dissolution occurs in two stages: a rapid linear initial stage, followed by a .

Laboratory percolation tests studied the main parameters such as flowrate, acid curing, acid concentration, copper recovery, acid consumption, concentrations in the pregnant leach solution. Results show a high and fast leaching of copper and a rather low and slow kinetic of cobalt leaching, due to the majority
Heap leaching belongs to the group of percolation leaching processes and operates over ground. The procedure is illustrated in Figure oxide copper ore is piled up on leach pads, which have a slight slope of approx. 3° and a rubber lining, which seals the ground under the heap.
Generally heap leaching process is employed in copper leaching process but sometimes a combination of heap leaching and in situ leaching processes are used. The solution (Sulphate/Fe 3 solution) is sprinkled over the heap which percolates through the ore and collects at the bottom pit.

For this reason, the heap leaching step is commonly preceded by agglomeration of the ore in a rotary drum agglomerator. This offers significant benefits, ultimately yielding improved recovery rates. Agglomeration greatly improves the leaching process by "binding" fines so that they do not impede percolation of the leachate through the ore pile.
This volume of ore upon wetting made a bed 10 feet deep in the 24inchdiameter column. A cyanide solution containing pound of NaCN per ton was employed for leaching. A flooding method was chosen, by necessity, for leaching the untreated ore in the baseline test because the ore had very poor percolation characteristics.
Leaching at ambient temperature resulted in a copper extraction rate of pct per 100 days. Increasing the temperature to 500 to 60 0 C resulted in decreased activity of natural mesophilic bacteria, and the leaching rate decreased to pct per 100 days.
